Congratulations to all the pupils that took part in the UK Bebras Challenge. We are also delighted to bring you an update on the Chemistry Olympiad awards.

UK Bebras Challenge

Bebras is a problem solving and computation competition organised by the University of Oxford which takes place in the autumn. The top 10% of the Bebras competition entrants are invited to the Oxford University Computing Challenge, which ran last month.

St Paul’s had 90 pupils from Fourth, Fifth and Lower Eighth Form compete and they achieved 16 Merits and 8 Distinctions.

Of particular note were the fantastic performances of Fifth Form pupils Victor Liu, Archie Macrae and Haolin Zhao, who have qualified for the final round – which places them in the top 20 in the country (out of 1426 in their age group). Special congratulations go to Victor, who was the only competitor to score full marks, and Archie, who was was only 1 point behind him. The final will take place on Thursday 18 March.

Chemistry Olympiad Awards

This year’s Chemistry Olympiad results have broken two records for St Paul’s School. More Paulines than ever before entered the event and more of them than ever before won awards: there were 51 bronzes, 63 silvers and 14 golds for a total of 128 awards from 151 entrants. The number of Paulines winning gold or silver awards also represents an all-time high.
