Exceptional Results at National Schools’ Regatta

The Boat Club had an exceptional set of results at the National Schools’ Regatta over the weekend.

On the Friday, the J14 B Octo put in a superb performance after winning the time trial of the B crew event, winning silver medals in their final. The J14 C Octo put in a heroic row in the B event time trial and made it into the C final; in a really close they were just pipped on the line by Shiplake, coming in fourth. The J14 quad (D crew) did incredibly well in their time trial, demolishing their target time and came in 31st out of 41 entries. The boys were competing against hardened A crews from clubs who have been training in quads for years – most of our boys learned to row after Christmas!

On Saturday, the first VIII broke the NSR record for Championship VIIIs, winning the Queen Mother’s Cup in a time of 5:48.10. This time was an almost superhuman achievement, as well as being our third win in a row at this event (no school has ever won four in a row). Other medallists on the day included the J15 B crew, earning a gold and a new course record for their class, whilst the third VIII took home the silver medal in their race. Finally, four boys from the first VIII raced again on the Sunday, winning gold in the championship coxless fours. Well done to all the rowers for a fantastic weekend!
