University news

Upper Eighth form (Year 13) pupils are beginning to receive offers from leading universities, at home and abroad.

62 boys have been offered places at Oxford and Cambridge, and 15 have already had firm offers from American universities — including Tom Cole and Saif Islam who won Robertson Scholarships to Duke University and UNC-Chapel Hill. Offers will continue to come in over the next few months.

Two recent leavers, now at Oxford, have made the news. Anthony Collins, reading Classics at Corpus Christi, has won the 2011 First Craven Scholarship and Dean Ireland’s Scholarship for verse composition in Greek and Latin. To do this before sitting his first exams, Mods, is almost unheard of.

Ben Woolgar, now in his third year at Balliol , has won the World Universities Debating Championships in Manila. He was crowned ‘Best Speaker in the World’ after beating nearly 800 other contestants. Read more about Ben’s success in The Jewish Chronicle.
