International debating
Joe Levin and Rahul Dev have won the International Competition for Young Debaters, hosted by the Oxford Union on Saturday.
Teams representing state and independent schools from all over Great Britain and from places as far away as Korea competed. Two teams from St Paul’s got through to the final day of this prestigious competition for under-16s: Rahul and Joe (SPS B) and Dan Mobayyen and Alex Joseph (SPS A).
Rahul and Joe qualified for the final round of the day by coming first, first and second in their three initial rounds. Despite being a year younger than most of the other competitors in the final debate, they then acquitted themselves impressively and were named the winners on a 5-2 judges’ split (a decided victory).
