Nicholas Parsons

The High Master and the Headmaster of Colet Court with Nicholas Parsons

Nicholas Parsons OBE (OP, 1937–39) brought his ‘An Evening with Nicholas Parsons’ to the school recently to raise money for the St Paul’s and Colet Court Bursary Fund.

Sporting an Old Pauline blazer, Nicholas engaged his audience with his witty account of his early life and rise to success as a much loved broadcaster, presenter and actor. He recalled anecdotes from his time at Colet Court and St Paul’s, a period in his life he remembers with affection, touching on how he gained his colours in boxing, cricket and rugby. From St Paul’s he went to Glasgow to be a mechanical engineer, but the entertainer would out. His enduring popularity with English-speaking radio audiences as presenter of Just a Minute is remarkable: he has chaired it since the pilot broadcast in December, 1967. In all, his career stretches over more than 60 years.

After the show, Nicholas signed copies of his latest book, With Just a Touch of Hesitation, Repetition and Deviation: My Life in Comedy, with all proceeds going to the Bursary Fund.

Our thanks go to Nicholas for his great generosity and for entertaining us so much, and to the Parents’ Group Committee who worked so hard to make the evening a success.
