1st & 2nd XVs on good form

The 1st & 2nd XV squads’ pre-season tour kicked off in the picturesque medieval town of Treviso, northern Italy. The squads made the most of the good weather, training in preparation for two physical matches each, the 1st XV taking on Treviso and Padova, the 2nds playing Oderza and Padova 2nd XV. The first matches against Treviso and Oderza saw creditable performances put in by both our sides, with the 1st XV winning 24–5 and the 2nd XV finishing well ahead, 44–3.

After a day of rest and recovery spent in Venice, the squads set about preparing for matches against two strong Padova sides. Despite the opposition having a significant size advantage, St Paul’s once again came away with two well deserved wins, the 1st XV winning 22–5, the 2nd XV 43–0.

The tour was a great opportunity for both year groups to bond and the squads returned as stronger teams,  ready to take on the challenges of the season that’s just started: the 1st XV have notched up wins against Solihull School (14–7) and Wimbledon College (17–14), while the 2nd XV have beaten Emmanuel 1st XV 26–17.
