Tuesday, 2 May, and the squad headed to Radley College for the annual medley and 4x100m relays event. The team performed superbly, winning A and B string finals in both the junior and intermediate medley events (200x200x400x800m). The inters set a new meeting record (3m37s), beating the previous record by 7 seconds. They then went on to win the 4x100m A final, too (jointly, with Harrow School).
Two days later and it was off to Oxford for the prestigious Achilles Schools Relays
, held at the renowned Iffley Road track where Sir Roger Bannister
broke the 4-minute mile. The inters were again on form, finishing a narrow second in the 4x100m hurdles race, before winning the 4x800m and 4x200m races, the latter for the first time in the school’s history.
