International rugby success
Jesse Mander evades the England defenders to make another trademark line break
During the recent Easter holiday, two Pauline rugby players excelled on the international stage: Jesse Mander (Year 11, Sixth form) and Richard Mathieson (Year 12, Lower Eighth).
Jesse represented the USA U17s at the Wellington International Festival (Wellington College), playing against Wales and England. The USA narrowly lost both games, but in the game against England Jesse was nominated as man of the match following a scintillating personal performance.
Richard represented the England U17s Academy side, a team comprised of the elite England players in this age group. After a comfortable victory over Scotland at Melrose, England had an exciting last minute victory over France at Harrow School. Richard had a fine performance at fullback, pressing claims for selection into the England U18s team next season.
Jesse and Richard will be part of the St Paul’s senior tour of South Africa in the summer. Both will also be members of next year’s 1st XV squad.
