Cricket

The sport I enjoy most is cricket in the summer term. — 6th former

Cricket flourishes at St Paul’s: four senior elevens and five junior elevens represent the school on a regular basis and we have a block of fixtures for all or most of these sides each Saturday in the summer term. The school cricket professional is Alastair Fraser (ex-Middlesex and Essex).

The Ist XI takes part in an annual festival with The Leys, Monkton Combe and Fettes College. St Paul’s hosted the festival in 2010 and we visit Monkton Combe this year.

The 1st XI, 2nd XI and Under-15 XI all play in the ‘50/40 league’, the other members of which are Hampton, KCS Wimbledon, RGS Guildford, Reed’s, St George’s Weybridge, Tiffin and Lord Wandsworth. The 1st XI and 2nd XI both came second in the league in 2010, and the Under-15s compete for the first time this year.

A senior side toured Sri Lanka in January, 2009 and again in January, 2011. The Under-15 XI toured Grenada in 2009 and St Lucia in 2010.

In 2008 and 2009, our Under-15 team won the County Final (Middlesex) of the National U15 20:20 competition. In 2009, we lost to Whitgift in the South-East and East regional finals of the Under-15 20-20 tournament, before beating Norwich School in the Regional third place play-off. In 2010, both 1st XI and 2nd XI recorded their highest number of victories in a summer since 1945.
