GCSE Electronics 2004 - AQA top 5

 

Every year the exam boards send letters to schools congratulating their candidates who have gained the five highest marks in the country at GCSE for a particular subject. Occasionally we are fortunate to receive such a letter for a boy at St. Paul's School. This summer the AQA exam board sent five letters to our exams officer Mr Lowden. When he opened the first, he was pleased to see a note of congratulation for one of our candidates in GCSE Electronics. As he opened each letter in turn his astonishment grew as each letter commended a GCSE Electronics candidate from our school. We had all the top five in the country! Sudarshan Murugesu, Ishan Kamdar, John Harvey, Tom Eccles, and Ravi Raja Rayan had accomplished a rare, possibly unique feat. I should also add that Maxim Daniline came one mark below the fifth, so it is possible we actually had the top six of the 641 candidates who took this exam.

 

The sixteen boys from St. Paul's School who sat this paper gained 12 A* grades and 4 A grades. All the boys completed excellent projects using their ingenuity to tackle some very challenging electronic systems. My thanks to Dr. Peter Bullett for sharing the supervision of their project work and also to Mr. David Emery for providing high quality technical support. The class of 2004 have set very high standards which we will endeavour to maintain in future years.
