8th Form Expedition to Rodrigues
Five members of the 8th form, accompanied by three members of staff, recently returned from a highly successful 12 day expedition to the Indian Ocean island of Rodrigues, 500 miles to the east of Mauritius. The group worked with a local conservation and education group, Shoals Rodrigues carrying out scuba diving surveys of coral reefs around the island. They also took part in a fisheries research project, interviewing local fishers and weighing and measuring their catch of octopus and fish. In their spare time the members of the expedition got to know their Rodriguan hosts by playing ultimate Frisbee and rugby on the beach, barbequed a huge tuna and learned how to sega by moonlight.
The members of the expedition were Josh Zappacosta, Nathan Brendish, Robert Spaull, Simon Bello and James Torrance, accompanied by Dr.'s Burnett, Weeks and Zetie. We hope that a full and detailed report of the trip, a lot more pictures and some of the scientific results will be published on the intranet soon.
