Centograph
At Open Day we showed off Centograph, a work ICT and Technology commissioned from Tinker.it!, "an innovative design consultancy that helps its clients understand the creative potential of new technologies and apply it to interactive experiences through products, spaces and events that bridge the physical and the digital".
Centograph was displayed alongside student projects from Colet Court and St Paul's. It is a physical representation of visual information, an interactive bar chart that allows users to explore the "shape of the century" by entering a search term and then seeing how common that term was in news stories through each decade of the last hundred years.
The piece was a huge success and drew a lot of interest throughout the day from both parents and boys. It became a focal point for the room, providing an interesting perspective on systems and control technology and how this can be combined with, or overlaps with, Art, History, Sociology .
We look forward to working on other projects with Tinker.it!.
From the Tinker.it! page about Centograph:
Students in St. Paul's technology classes are studying the fundamentals and the latest advances in computation, networks, electronics, and physical design. These technologies are increasingly complex and interconnected; this has been reflected in the emergence of fields such as interaction design, human computer interaction, and physical computing.
Centograph, a physical representation of virtual information, uses today's technologies to encourage viewers to reflect on the past.
