England Schools Debating
Three Paulines - a remarkable number - were invited to take part in trials this weekend for the England Schools Debating Team (which currently ranks second in the world): Ben Woolgar and Ben Martin from the Lower Eighth and Dominic Parikh from the Sixth Form.
After a series of debates all day Saturday, the top twelve speakers were called back on Sunday for a general knowledge quiz followed by two further debates. Then the top six went through to an interview in the afternoon from whom the team of four were chosen.
Ben Martin and Dominic Parikh did well on the first day but were not called back for the second; after a totally exhausting and draining weekend, Ben Woolgar has been chosen to represent England in the World Schools Debating Championships.
