French trip improves GCSE language skills
Recent weeks have seen barricades in the Modern Languages corridor ... the time for GCSE orals has arrived again! Many of those studying French will have benefited hugely from what is now a traditional school trip across the Channel.
During the first week of the Easter holidays, 36 boys accompanied by Mr Hempstead, Miss Hinnah and Mlle Monsauret, assembled at Heathrow Airport, for a week of intensive French lessons to prepare for their G.C.S.E. the following month. The week started on a low note, as the entire group lost their baggage at Paris, meaning that they had to borrow French pyjamas for the next two days.
Each day, in the morning, they had French lessons at the Ecole Klesse language school. In the afternoon, various sites of interest, such as the mediaeval town of Carcassonne and the fortress at Aigues Mortes, were visited. There was also a guided tour of the vibrant town of Montpellier, where we they stayed with French families. The highlights of the week were accro-branches, an exhilarating tree-top activity, and the afternoon spent on the beach, enjoying the famous Southern sun.
All in all, the week was very useful for their French, and was also great fun, a perfect opportunity to relax before the summer term.
