Art trip to New York 2007
Twenty two L8 and U8 Paulines flew into N.Y.C. escorted by Mr Tiley, Mrs Holmes, Ms Stravoravdi and Ms Weiss during half term. The mission was to see as much art and architecture as possible. The major museums such as the Metropolitan and M.O.M.A. were covered early on so that the sumptuous breakfast from the local diner could be worked off.
The boys were in awe of the architecture and numerous 20th century masterpieces such as the Seagram Building and the Guggenheim were seen in all their splendour. There were exciting modern and contemporary shows in the hip galleries of Chelsea and this was balanced with the quiet beauty of the Frick.
There were visits to the opera and a basketball game by a number of boys.
Barbara Krugers statement 'I shop therefore I am' applied to quite a few L8 as they returned with the hip street wear of Harlem and the Bronx whilst the U8 were more Abercrombie and Fitch. The pure energy and dynamism of this city both informed and excited the creative drive in all of us.
