UKMT Team Maths Challenge
The St Paul's/Colet Court team of Sahl Khan and Jake Cohen-Setton (14 and 13, respectively; both SPS) and Adi George and Sanjay Willder (13 and 12; both CC) has won the 2009 National Final of the UKMT Team Maths Challenge held in London on 22 June.
The top 70 of an initial 1500 teams contested the title over five hours. They had to solve a range of problems in pairs and as a team - against the clock and also against the other teams. They finished the last problem of the day with one second to spare ... and got it correct. Last year, St Paul's were joint winners. This is the first time we have won the competition outright.
The boys worked very hard for this trophy, starting training in February at lunchtimes. Apart from learning or recognising the prime, Fibonacci and triangular numbers up to 1000, they trained on general questions. making sure that they were familiar with the different parts of the competition.
