    UKMT team 2008

    Another Maths triumph!

    (24/06/2008) The team of James Aaronson, Ophir  Even (both SPS) and Harry Dent , Alex Butryn ( both CC) were joint  National Winners of the 2008 UKMT 2008 Team Maths Challenge.

    The top 60 of an original 1300 schools contested the title over 5 hours of mathematical challenges where they had to solve differing types of problems, as a team, against the clock. St Paul's began the early rounds strongly, but with less certainty in the final two rounds. Part of the excitement of the day is that none of the teams know how well other teams are coping.  After nearly winning  this  title in previous years, the team was elated to finally win it.

    1= St Paul's
    1= Sir Roger Manwood's School (Sandwich, Kent)
    3 Merchant Taylor's School
    4 St Olave's Grammar School, Orpington (last year's winners)

    Information from the regional finals is shown below.

    UKMT team forges ahead

    (19/03/2008) Following in the successful footsteps of last year's team (National Finals runners up), the 2008 team has just won  the regional finals of the UKMT 2008 Team Maths Challenge at St Saviours and St Olaves (Old Kent Rd) and are now in the National finals on 23rd  June in London.

    The United Kingdom Mathematics Trust (UKMT) Maths Challenges are lively, intriguing papers designed to stimulate interest in maths in large numbers of pupils. They are tests of reasoning and mental agility.

    Our team of James Aaronson and Ophir Even, plus Harry Dent and Alex Butryn from Colet Court entered the Team Mathematics Challenge (TMC), aimed at Year 8 and 9 pupils, with no more than two pupils from Year 9.

    The TMC gives pupils the opportunity to enhance their mathematical and teamwork skills through a variety of different activities:

    • Group competition
    • Cross-number
    • Head-to-head contest
    • Mathematical relay race
