St Paul’s School / Daily Life

The Classical Society meets regularly throughout the year and offers talks that encompass the full breadth of classical studies: literature, history, philosophy, art, linguistics and more besides. Our talks are generally given by outside speakers, including some of the most distinguished classicists in the UK. We also run a dinner for Eighth Formers studying classical subjects.

While our Classical Society is open to all boys, we also have a junior Classical Society, Pegasus, aimed at boys in the Fourth and Fifth Forms. Pegasus meets every other Tuesday lunchtime to hear lively talks, usually from older boys, on a diverse range of topics. Recent talks include: Classical Mathematics, Why did Nero Fail?, An Introduction to New Testament Greek, Athens and Sparta, The Persian Wars, The Battle of Marathon, Julius Caesar.
