Ascent of the Dome de Neige des Ecrins
Seven Lower Eighth Formers have just returned from a testing trip to the French Alps. Over the course of a week they learned the skills necessary to move safely over glaciers and climb over snow and ice. The climax of the expedition was a successful ascent of the Dome de Neige des Ecrins. Leaving a mountain hut at 4:30 am, the 4015 metre summit was gained shortly after dawn on a wonderfully clear morning. All members of the party returned tired but exhilarated after a tremendous experience.
