I spent my lunch break practising for a jazz gig with my band. — L8th former
Welcome to Music at St Paul’s!
We are a lively and busy department, holding over 60 concerts and events a year — from lunchtime and informal concerts given by boys, through educational workshops involving the local community, to concerts by our own groups and ensembles and professional concerts that include high-profile, celebrity recitals. You can book tickets for both school and professional concerts or sample our latest CD.
There’s a wide range of musical activities at St Paul’s, from symphony orchestras to string groups, choirs (including a thriving close harmony group) to saxophone ensembles, jazz groups to a host of small chamber groups tackling anything from early to contemporary music. In addition to our full-time academic music staff, over 40 visiting musicians teach at St Paul’s.
A new music school was built in 1999, housing over 20 fully equipped practice rooms (including specialist jazz, percussion and harpsichord rooms), a 316-seat concert hall, the Wathen Hall, and the Foyer — a second large space for both rehearsal and performance.
