Team Firefly’s Success at Goodwood

On Sunday, Firefly Racing competed at Goodwood.

The team had prepared for this event meticulously, running many CFD simulations to find the perfect set up window for the day. The pupils who were able to go to Goodwood executed this plan perfectly and it paid off. They came 3rd in F24 Kit Cars (11-16 yr olds) and 1st in F24+ Kit Cars (16-25 yr olds), finishing 3 minutes ahead of the second place car.

They also met with McLaren F1 Engineers, who were so impressed by the telemetry, CFD simulations and steering wheel (which apparently is as good as Lando’s) that they awarded the team the Ford Engineering Award.

The team on the day comprised:
Sixth Former: Max Miller (who drove the car to its 1st place finish); Fifth Formers: Kevin Bici, James Butcher, Dhilan Cortesi, Ehan Kunnummal, and Matt Xiao; and Fourth Formers: Rayyan Nasir; William Ng; and Joseph Sternberg.

The team who prepped the strategy and ran the CFD runs, but were unable to go on the day were:
Lower Eighth Former: Vyom Chamaria (car strategy); Sixth Formers: Theo Altberger (car setup), Alex Brask-Tyrrell (car setup), George Lyster (car set up), Haris Naser (car setup), and Ishan Shah (battery prep); and Fourth Former: Leo Bauer (battery prep).
