A report by Mr Larlham
Lower Eighth Spanish pupils enjoyed a fascinating and highly enjoyable morning at the Tate Modern with our expert guide and teacher, Maria, from Spanish House London.
We looked at a small number of Latin American works of art, which Maria asked us to consider in a variety of ways to elicit all the dormant language and knowledge awoken by the liberation from the confines of tables and chairs. We looked at an intriguing cutout of a body that mirrored the contours of the Andes and expressed the myths of indigenous cultures. We then looked at some paintings by a Cuban artist that evoked Santería, Christianity and critiqued social inequalities in contemporary society. My only regret is not having sampled the crinkle-cut fries from Shake Shack on the trek back to school.
