We host a regular concert series, with performances by artists such as Murray Perahia, Radu Lupu, and Steven Isserlis, and masterclasses by Maxim Vengerov, The Barbican Piano Trio and The Swingle Singers.
All concerts are open to St Paul’s School pupils, parents, staff and the general public.
Wathen Hall Hire
The Foyer, with large glass doors opening out on to a lawn which overlooks the river, provides an attractive entrance point for The Wathen Hall, and can also be used as a self-contained performing space. It also contains a kitchen/servery area.
The Wathen Hall is reached by two flights of stairs leading from the foyer. A lift provides access for the disabled.
Recording in The Wathen Hall
The Wathen Hall is ideally suited to the recording of solo and chamber music. With a stage area of 135 square metres it is large enough to accomodate a small chamber orchestra, while also providing an intimate space for smaller groups. The hall possesses two Steinway grand pianos (a model D and an AS) which are maintained regularly by Steinway & Sons. Two control rooms are available: a large room with a cable duct to the hall, which enables hirers to bring in their own recording equipment; and a small room containing a Fostex D5 DAT recorder and a Mackie 14-channel mixer, linked by 40 audio tie-lines to the hall. Further details and hire rates for The Wathen Hall and pianos are available on request.
Concerts in The Wathen Hall
The Wathen Hall has a capacity of 316, on raked seating. As a result, the hall has an intimate feel, and the acoustics and sightlines from all parts of the hall are good. Two balconies overhang the stage area and are available for performance purposes. Seating, staging and music stands for performers can be provided on request.
