We are delighted to report that there has been recent success in both the John Locke Institute Essay Competition and King’s College Annual French Essay Competition.
John Locke Merit Scholarship 2021
We delighted to report that Lower Eighth student, Ben Jacob has obtained a merit scholarship for one of the John Locke summer courses (Humanities Conference) this August. Ben submitted an essay entitled: ‘What, if anything, gives the government the right to force you to pay tax?’
The John Locke Institute encourages young people to cultivate the characteristics that turn good students into great writers: independent thought, depth of knowledge, clear reasoning, critical analysis and persuasive style. The essay competition invites students to explore a wide range of challenging and interesting questions beyond the confines of the school curriculum.
The Humanities Conference covers a range of interconnected subjects, including history, law, politics, economics and psychology.
King’s College Annual French Essay Competition
Congratulations to Lower Eighth student, Alexander Baines who recently took part in the King’s College London annual essay writing competition and was awarded the runner up position. The question asked about the importance of historical monuments and opinions on rebuilding identical monuments.
