It has been an action filled sporting week at St Paul’s, yielding some excellent results.
Cross-Country
Battersea Park Run – 29 November
Alfred Chen (Sixth Form) produced an outstanding performance at the Battersea Park Run on 29 November, finishing 12th out of 851 runners in 16 minutes 03 seconds. Alfred beat his personal best by over 30 seconds, marking a remarkable achievement in a highly competitive field.
Rowing
Wallingford Head – 30 November
Sunday saw the first major outing for the SPS cohort, with eight eights navigating the twisty stretch of river that Oxford University calls home. The 120 degree bend halfway down the course presented challenges for the coxes, all of whom were seeing this course for the first time thanks to several years of cancelled regattas due to flooding. There were a few clashes with trees and other boats, but one of the J15 mixed eights safely delivered a win in the J15 category, three seconds ahead of Shiplake. Elsewhere one of the senior mixed eights finished 13th overall, a fraction of a second behind Westminster’s top boat.
Rugby
SPS v Dulwich – 29 November
St Paul’s rugby teams enjoyed some strong performances in fixtures against Dulwich College. The First XV delivered a commanding 29–5 home win, while the Second XV fell 26–5 in a tough physical encounter. The U15A team saw a dramatic 19–19 draw, conceding in the final moments, while the U15B narrowly lost 21–14 and the U15C secured a 19–14 victory.
The U16 and U14 squads maintained unbeaten runs with strong performances. U16A and U14A teams won 22–8 and 17–12, respectively, while U16B edged a bruising 7–5 victory. The U14B team triumphed 5–0, C and D teams drew 10–10 and 12–12, and the E team finished with a dominant 57–7 win.
Meanwhile, the U15 squad continued their progress in the Continental Tyres Plate with a 35–17 away victory at Merchant Taylors.
Swimming
Ealing SC Chritmas County Qualifier – 29-30 November
Inian Dhandapani (Lower Eighth) represented St Paul’s at the Ealing SC Christmas County Qualifier on 29–30 November. Competing against 11 clubs, Inian earned a silver medal in the 50m Breaststroke and a bronze in the 100m Breaststroke, marking an impressive haul for the weekend.
