SPS athletes continue to impress, with excellent performances at the English National Cross Country Championships and Co-Captain Cameron McConnon setting a new personal best in the Battersea Under the Lights 5K.

Cross Country – Nationals

There were a series of very strong performances by SPS pupils from Fourth Form to Upper Eighth in the (postponed) English National Cross Country Championships that took place on Saturday 14 September in Weston Park, Staffordshire. Co-Captain Benjy Street (Upper Eighth) came 16th in the U17 race with a time of 19.21 for 6K, Leau Roch (Fifth Form) came 62nd in U15 with 14.39 for 4K, and Charlie Nicolson (Fourth Form) came a stunning 3rd in U13 in 10.50 for 3K, with Cyrus Sheikh (Fourth Form) 52nd in the same race in 11.47.  After progressing through the rounds to qualify for Nationals and then having four pupils all come in the top 30% or better at this elite level is a brilliant achievement. Many congratulations to all four! Following on from a series of school records in last summer’s athletics season, this is more than encouraging for the forthcoming cross-country fixtures.

Athletics Co-captain Cameron McConnon (Upper Eighth) also raced in the Battersea Under the Lights 5K on Friday, achieving a new personal best time of 15.47. Parkrunners can appreciate quite how fast that is!
