Max (Lower Eighth) had a highly successful half term on the athletics track.
On Saturday 27 May, he again broke his own school 800m record at a race in Manchester, clocking a time of 1:53.01. The following weekend saw the South of England Championships being held at Walton. On the Saturday, Max took an excellent bronze medal in a tactical 800m race culminating in a sprint finish, however, the best was yet to come. On the Sunday he returned to tackle the 1500m, until this season an event he has raced sparingly. He followed the leaders around before unleashing a devastating kick to win gold by over a second. His time of 3:59.46 was a new personal best (and school record) taking a massive 7 seconds from his previous best. A superb performance and one that should give him great confidence as he moves on to the England Championships in three weeks’ time.
