There were some fabulous performances at Harrow on Saturday as athletes took part in their first big fixture of the summer, the Guy Butler Shield.
In the absence of team captain Tom Street (due to injury), vice-captain Alex Pama (Upper Eighth) led the way, winning the senior shot put with a throw of 13.53m, which earned him the trophy for Performance of the Match.
Meanwhile, on the track Max (Lower Eighth) took a highly impressive middle-distance double, winning the 800m and 1500m in classy style, the latter in a new school record of 4min 06.02sec taking 5 seconds off the previous record. There were wins in both senior 110m hurdles races with Sol Inglis (Lower Eighth) taking the A string in 16.05sec and Andreas Hadjiloizou (Lower Eighth) taking the B string in 16.55sec (a time which would have finished second in the A string!).
Despite the team being thin in places due to injuries and other commitments, there were spirited performances to be seen all over the stadium, with over 50 new personal best times and distances being recorded. With a weekend off for the King’s Coronation coming up, the athletes will now set their sights on chasing points and PBs at the Lord Burghley Trophy at Eton on Saturday 13 May.
