Well done to James (Upper Eighth) and Max (Fifth Form), who both had successful outings at the South of England U20 Championships and Lee Valley, respectively, on Saturday.
Two St Paul’s School athletes had very successful outings over the weekend. Team Captain James (Upper Eighth) ran a new personal best and school record in the final of the South of England U20 Championships in Bedford on Saturday. His time of 21.98 seconds was enough to win the bronze medal; he is now ranked 16th in the UK in the U20 age group making him a strong contender to be selected to represent Middlesex at the English Schools Championships, which takes place in Manchester on 9-11 July. This is particularly impressive with James still being 17 years old and having another year in the age group.
Fifth Form pupil Max was also in excellent form on Saturday, running a new personal best of 1:56.9 in the U17 800m at Lee Valley. Like James, Max is also at the bottom of his age group this year and is also ranked 16th in the UK. However, he is the fastest of those in his year group, which augurs very well for 2022! His time meets the English Schools’ entry standard, so he has a good chance of being selected to represent Middlesex in Manchester. Further updates will be given once the official selections have taken place.
