Ben Law Joins the London Schools Symphony Orchestra

Ben Law has received a place at the London Schools Symphony Orchestra (LSSO) to play the oboe.

Auditions for this orchestra are extremely competitive and it is a major achievement that Ben has been offered the chance to join, playing in the woodwind section with an instrument that has been a part of classical orchestras since the early 18th century.

The orchestra is a melting pot of the finest young musicians in the city, with professional conductors and soloists who are accompanied by the orchestra. Founded in 1951, the LSSO enjoys the reputation of being one of the most prestigious youth orchestras in the world. The orchestra plays in three concerts a year at the Barbican and also enjoys an annual summer tour, with trips in recent years to countries that include Argentina, the USA and Japan.

Ben performed his first concert on 7 January at the Barbican, conducted by Ryan Wigglesworth. The concert included major works by Wagner and Strauss, coming at the end of an intensive two weeks of rehearsals and practice over the Christmas period. He next plays at the Barbican on 9 May.
