The Kayton Library has set up a Burned Books and Banned Books display.
On May 10, 1933 student groups at universities across Germany carried out a series of book burning of works that the students and leading Nazi party members associated with “un-German spirit”. These books can be viewed in the large cabinet outside the library.
In the other displays we have banned books from around the world and from the Texas 850 List. On 25 October 2021, Texas Republican State Representative Matt Krause sent a letter to the Texas Education Agency asking if any of the schools in the state have the books listed on a 16 page spreadsheet that may contain some “objectionable content.”. We have a small selection of some of the books on the list.
