In June 95 Paulines, mostly from the L8th, but also a few 6th formers who were celebrating the end of their GCSEs, took part in the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge.
Although SPS won one award fewer than last year (which was a record year), Paulines still claimed 38 gold, 26 silver and 23 copper awards plus Benjamin Atkinson (L8th) earned a roentgenium (awarded only to the top 0.59% of 10,130 competitors) and with it an invitation to a residential camp in Cambridge over the summer. One question required pupils to complete the design for a synthesis of terbinafine, the active ingredient in athlete’s foot remedies.
