Cambridge Chemistry Challenge

St Paul’s School has achieved its best-ever results in the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge, a national competition run by Cambridge university for students in Year 12.

80 boys entered the competition, which is designed to challenge students beyond the curriculum and encourage them to think about science in the way they would at university.

An astonishing 76 St Paul’s boys achieved awards: 27 golds, 22 silvers and 27 coppers (copper is awarded in place of the traditional bronze in this competition because it is a pure chemical element, whereas bronze is actually a mixture of metals).

The school has had great success in the competition since its inception in 2011, but this year’s cohort won 27 awards more than last year’s then-record making year group. These results follow the school’s best-ever results in the RSC Chemistry Olympiad, where Year 12 and Year 13 students took part, back in January.
