Cambridge University Chemistry Race

On Saturday 4 February, five Lower Eighth chemists took part for the first time in the Chemistry Race at Cambridge University.

After two hours of solving chemistry problems six-at-a-time, the team of Rayn, Ben, Nathan, Louis and Rahul finished 11th in the Cambridge division and 16th of 78 teams in the UK.

Although this was the first outing to the Chemistry Race for SPS, the event is in its fourth year, having been set up by students in the Czech Republic before establishing a UK extension in Cambridge. Students earn points by solving chemistry problems of increasing difficulty against the clock, running between their work area and the competition moderators who will issue further problems only in exchange for correct answers.  After an enjoyably exhausting experience, we are looking forward to sending another team next year.
