A report by Dev and Faris (Lower Eighth)
Mr Harris and Ms Penney organised a Charities Fayre on the last day of the Spring Term before school broke up for the Easter holiday. With the rain pouring down the night before, the start was damp, but as the day went on and more and more pupils got involved, the sun came out and matched the bright and enjoyable atmosphere that was set in Founder’s Court and the Atrium. However, it was not enough to dry those soaked from the Thomas Gresham Committee’s sponge-throwing and even water bucket dumping game – just one of the events that took place that day.
At the fair, there were over 80 students involved in running the many stalls, supporting eight different charities. Overall, they managed to raise almost £2000 in total on the day. The Pauls4All Charities Committee were supporting our school’s four primary partnership charities: Man&Boy, AllChild, Little Village and London Sports Trust. The committee members thought of creative ways to raise money, whether that be through a nerve-racking golf putting game or a loud and thrilling basketball shoot-out. We were lucky enough to speak to representatives from the charities we were supporting and learn more about their impactful work.
Pupils also raised money for other charities that they were supporting, for example: the Mileva foundation and Beyond Ourselves. Also, large groups of pupils in the Fourth and Fifth Forms (as part of their efforts for the Wings of Hope Achievement Awards) raised funds for Wings of Hope, which supports the education of orphaned children in India and Malawi.
All in all, it was a very successful and enjoyable day for all the Paulines involved and the charities that were supported.
