Chemistry Race at Cambridge University

On Saturday 7 February, five Lower Eighth chemists represented St Paul’s at the annual Chemistry Race at the University of Cambridge – the fourth time the School has entered the competition.

The event brings together teams from some of the UK’s highest-achieving schools and challenges pupils to tackle demanding, university-level chemistry problems under intense time pressure. Success depends not only on subject knowledge, but also on teamwork, resilience and clear thinking.

Competing against 73 teams, Max, Harry, Inian, Sebastian and Jacob achieved an outstanding 23rd place overall. This is an especially impressive result given that many teams were made up predominantly of Upper Eighth pupils.

The team demonstrated exceptional collaboration, impressive chemical insight and strong problem-solving skills throughout the competition. Congratulations to the young team on a superb performance.
