Chemistry Race at Cambridge University

On Saturday, 1 February, five Lower Eighth chemists took part in the Chemistry Race at Cambridge University — the third time St Paul’s has entered the competition.

Pupils earned points by solving chemistry problems of increasing difficulty against the clock — problems that were even harder than those in the RSC Chemistry Olympiad. They ran between their work area and the competition moderators, who would only issue further problems in exchange for correct answers.

After two hours of solving six chemistry problems at a time, the team of Adavya, Alex, Sam, Tolga, and Zubin, finished in an exceptional fifth place out of over sixty teams in the Cambridge competition — our best result yet! The team went home in very high spirits, carrying with them a certificate along with a Chemistry Race coffee mug made from laboratory-grade glass.
