On Thursday 20 March, the SPS chess team competed against Latymer Upper School in the National Schools Regional Finals.
In the first half, Richard and Vedaant secured quick wins, while Ian, after running into early time trouble, managed to earn a draw. Liam, unfortunately, lost his game after losing an exchange. The remaining games were closely contested, but Ryan secured a win, and Lior achieved a draw, leading to a fantastic overall victory with a score of 4-2.
With this win, the SPS chess team has now qualified for the finals of the highly prestigious National Schools Chess Competition, which will be held at the University of Nottingham in June.
Many congratulations to the team: Ian Ding (Fourth), Lior Yedid (Fifth), Liam Clery-Luta & Richard Zhan (Sixth Form), Ryan Ng & Vedaant Saggi (Upper Eighth).
