Debating Society

On Tuesday, 28 September, the Debating Society considered the motion: This house believes China will lead the world, with Lower Eighth teams on both sides.

Alex Vecchioli, Dennis Jian and Harry Mugisha spoke for the proposition, emphasising Chinese leadership in the global economy, green tech and poverty alleviation. Caspar Robertson, Howell Zhang and Victor Shao spoke for the opposition questioning China’s ambition and ability to lead the world and accept other powers.

The vote before the debate was 11 to 20 for the opposition but was swung back to a 20/20 tie at the end.

Next Tuesday, 5 October, we will debate: This house believes vaccine passports should be mandatory.
