Last week, Upper Eighth Philosophy students had the opportunity to visit the Fred Museum London, and a small team of Eighth Form students participated in the London Oratory School Model United Nations conference.
Freud Museum London Visit
On Thursday 25 November, Upper Eighth Philosophy students visited the Freud Museum London in Hampstead. We had a highly engaging talk by a committed Freudian and practicing psychoanalyst and saw the couch where the very idea of so-called “talking cures” began. In light of the fact that Freud and his family arrived at this house as Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi persecution in Vienna, it was fascinating to reflect on Freud’s vociferous critique of religion.
Model United Nations
On Saturday, 27 November, a team of Eighth Form students participated in the London Oratory School Model United Nations conference. Caspar Robertson won Best Delegate for representing the USA on the Human Rights Committee, Lucas Cadman was Highly Commended for representing the USA on the Security Council, and James Lawson was also Highly Commended for representing North Korea on the Special Political and Decolonisation Committee.
The North Korean delegation – James Lawson, Corry Traynor, Victor Mikheev, Freddie Dehmel and Sebastian Vanger de Madariaga – were also awarded the prize for Best Delegation at the conference’s General Assembly. The majority of our team participated in a MUN conference for the first time, so their success is awe-inspiring (and many thanks to Robbie Lit for his excellent work in preparing them for the conference).
