Cricket News – 9 May

There’s been plenty of action on the field since cricket started up again this Summer Term.

Last Friday, the U11s travelled to sunny Croydon to play Whitgift. U11A found themselves up against a quality side and, after a good bowling display was dispatched to all parts of the ground by a skilled batting line up, the boys found themselves chasing 160-plus. Whitgift’s equally splendid bowling attack then made short work of out batsmen and the boys lost by a big margin. Plenty of positives to be taken out of the game though. Meanwhile, the B and C teams were both claimed thrilling wins.

On Saturday, Whitgift were again our opponents, this time at senior level, and what a collection of results it was! The A team were outstanding in their victory against a quality side, as were the B team. The wins kept on coming for the C, D, E and F teams, resulting in a clean sweep against one of the best sporting schools in London.

Tuesday saw U11 take on Cleve School in the first round of the Verney Pairs Cup and, in a fine performance, they ran out winners by some 50-odd runs. Away at DPL, the U10s were having a fine afternoon with the A team winning by five wickets, the B by 15 runs and the D and E teams by five and 10 wickets respectively.

That sunny morning, the U8s had their first taste of competitive cricket with a block against KCS. It was a fabulous morning for the boys and the many parents who came to spectate.

On Wednesday, U13A played their first-round county cup fixture against Hampton and unfortunately came up short by 20-odd runs to a talented side. The B and C teams were at home to DPL and had a win and a loss respectively.

The U9s travelled to DPL on a glorious Thursday afternoon and, across the seven games played, only Group 4 were victorious but there was some excellent early-season cricket played and lots of fun had.
