Congratulations to our 14 Lower Eighth Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award participants, who all successfully completed a 4-day training and practice expedition in the Peak District National Park last week. The weather was particularly warm, which made the expedition quite challenging, but the conditions allowed them to experience the UK countryside in its full glory. It was a welcome change of scene after the internal examinations and provided a chance to decompress.
The participants walked over 15km per day, carrying very heavy packs, supporting each other to complete the route and manage themselves in camp, with guidance from expert instructors. The group will now proceed to their qualifying expedition, which will take place in the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons).
We hope that current Sixth Form pupils will consider joining the DofE Gold Award next year. Further information about this opportunity will be shared before the end of the term.
