Eighth Formers Advance to Final Round of Informatics Olympiad

The first round of the British Informatics Olympiad took place in schools just before Christmas, resulting in two Paulines advancing on to the next round.

The Informatics Olympiad is the premier programming competition for schools, involving solving and coding solutions to difficult problems using just a computer in a limited amount of time. The top 15 in the country progress to the final in Cambridge at Easter, where the best four will be selected to represent Britain in the International competition held in Iran during the summer.

Having previously represented Britain in the International competition twice, Joe Benton (Upper Eighth) has made it into the final round again and joining him is fellow Upper Eighth pupil Hugo Aaronson. Three other Paulines, Harry Armitage (Upper Eighth), Aidan McGinnie (Lower Eighth) and Oscar O’Brien (Sixth Form) came within 10 marks of making the final as well, making this one of the best years ever at St Paul’s.
