Russell Beale has played many of the major roles in Shakespeare’s canon including Iago in Othello (NT), Prospero in The Tempest (RSC) and the title roles in Macbeth (Almeida) and King Lear (NT). His 1999 performance in Candide won him the Oliver Award for Best Actor in a Musical, and in 2002 he received a second Oliver Award for his performance in the title role of Uncle Vanya. Equally praised for comic roles, he has appeared in Pinter’s The Hothouse (Trafalgar Studios), Monty Python’s Spamalot and as the Duchess in Christopher Wheeldon’s Alice in Wonderland at the Royal Opera House. In 2012 he was awarded a BAFTA for his performance as Falstaff in The Hollow Crown (BBC) and most recently starred in Sam Mendes’s critically acclaimed production of The Lehman Trilogy. His film roles include The Death of Stalin, Into the Woods and Mary, Queen of Scots. Described by The Independent as “the greatest stage actor of his generation”, he was knighted for services to drama earlier this year.

Sir Simon Russell Beale will appear in conversation with Director of Drama Christian Anthony to discuss his extraordinary thirty year career on stage and screen. The event will begin at 7:30pm, lasting one hour, including an opportunity for questions from the audience. After the event, complimentary drinks will be served. All profits from this event will be donated to the Terrence Higgins Trust.
