Spring Concert

27 APRIL 2022

7:00pm

Wathen Hall, St Paul's School

The Spring Concert will showcase our senior orchestras and Baroque Ensemble.

The programme promises to be a dramatic and turbulent one! There will be music from Rameau’s Lyric Dramas and two symphonies. Chamber Orchestra will perform Kurt Weill’s seldom-heard second symphony, written just after he fled Nazi Germany. At times cruelly ironic and outright angry, this is edgy music that has all the drama we associate with his more famous stage works.

The concert will conclude with Sibelius’s 5th symphony, itself a resolution of an internal artistic crisis of faith. In it, Sibelius returns to a firm tonal footing and takes the listener on a dramatic journey from stillness to intense kinetic motion and back again.
