Football News

Last week, the St Paul’s football season really clicked into gear. On Wednesday the 1st and 2nd XIs comfortably progressed in the London Cup, beating Brentwood 5-0 and 6-0 respectively.

On Saturday, there was a fruitful League Block fixture against Haileybury. Our thanks go to Tom Martin and the Grounds team, as we were able to host ten matches despite the weather. St Paul’s enjoyed a number of wins and, pleasingly, the U15A and U16A teams dug in to draw after faltering starts to the season.

The 1st XI, on pitch 1 for the first time this season,  stayed calm after a frustrating first half. In the last 20 minutes of the game, they discovered their finishing touch and rattled in six goals, just missing a penalty in a devastating end to the game. Commendations are awarded to man of the match, Sol and hat-trick heroes, Ollie and Tom. This is first-hand evidence of the pupils benefiting from the work Mr Blake and Mr Blurton have dedicated to strength and conditioning and it was great to see the 1st XI dominate the latter stages of a game.
