Football Report

It was another busy week for St Paul’s Football Club with 27 competitive matches played in total.

On Wednesday, the senior football teams welcomed Emanuel School where our 2nd XI played against their 1st XI. St Paul’s won 2-1 and there was a goal of the season contender scored by Moyo (Lower Eighth). The 3rd XI beat their 2nd XI 12-1 with 5 goals scored by Dara Daneshva and 4 goals scored by Conrad Gardey. The 4th XI won a close encounter against their U16A team 4-3 whilst the 5th XI continued their fine goal scoring form winning 11-0 against their 3rd XI with Felix Henderson-Stewart scoring a hat-trick and Louis Besson scoring 4! The 6th XI were however, held to a 1-1 draw vs Emanuel’s U16B team.

On Thursday, the U15’s played Harrow in what was a re-arranged block fixture.

The U15A put together another good performance but lost 0-2 despite creating lots of chances. The U15B team lost 1-3 where a couple of scrappy goals was the difference. The U15C held a strong Harrow outfit to a 2-2 draw whilst the U15D team continued their unbeaten season with another strong performance in their 2-1 win.

On Saturday, we played Dulwich College in a ferociously contested block fixture from U12 to U18 meaning 32 teams were representing their School and over 420 St Paul’s pupils pulled on their match shirts. From 0-3 down at half time, the 1st XI showed immense character, teamwork and fitness levels to come back and win their match 4-3 in what is probably the result of the season for this group of players. The 2nd XI put together some of their best phases of possession and were faultless in their performance despite a heavily delayed start to the match. They were victorious 3-0. The 3rd XI, thanks to a last minute winning goal from Dara Dansehva were 2-1 winners and the 4th XI also won 2-1 in a closely contested match. The 5th XI suffered their first loss of the season, failing to find the back of the net and lost 0-2 whilst the 6th XI got back to winning ways with a 2-1 win on pitch 8. The U16A team dominated their match, showing just how clinical in front of goal they can be and won 7-1 thanks to 5 goals being scored by Sam Francombe. The U16B lost 0-1 in a close encounter similar to the U16C team who drew 3-3 thanks to 2 goals from Alexis Przyrembel and the U16D team beat Dulwich 4-1 with 2 goals from Max Slocock. The U15A team came up against one of the strongest teams in the country and played well, despite losing their match 0-3 whilst the U15B team put together one of their best performances of the season, winning 5-2 including a hat-trick from Tommy Mahoney. The U15C team drew their match 2-2 whilst the U15D team’s unbeaten run came to an end, losing 3-4. The U14A’s lost their first match of the year 0-3 but the U14B showed their strength winning 1-0. Unfortunately, the U14C and U14D team’s both lost their matches 1-2 and 2-5 respectively.

The final block results were: St Paul’s won 9, drew 2 and lost 7.
