GeogSoc Panel Discussion

On Tuesday, the school’s Geography Society (GeogSoc) hosted a fantastic panel discussion on sustainability, featuring inspiring speeches by representatives from key companies in the sustainable retail and sustainable finance sectors and a great talk by some of the school’s green entrepreneurs.

The event was held in the comfortable venue of the Dorfman Theatre and was attended by students, parents and staff, and those of us involved in the school’s Eco Society (EcoSoc) particularly cherished the opportunity to hear from industry leaders in the various areas of sustainability. U8th students Varen Gowda and Luxsigan Vamadevan started the conference with the exciting story of their sustainable wallet business, Carteras.

This award-winning enterprise uses recycled denim to manufacture high-quality products. Building on this, a talk by two representatives from LUSH cosmetics further emphasised the potential of sustainable retail businesses – drawing on their experience as a rapidly growing brand committed to clear environmental goals. Following this, Bloomberg renewable energy analyst Helen Dewhurst gave an excellent summary of the progress on clean energy worldwide, identifying hydrogen as a promising avenue for the future. Finally, Dr Michelle De Jongh concluded the evening with a thought-provoking presentation on ESG and what can be done to make companies more sustainable in the long term.

Thank you to the GeogSoc committee and Mr Goldup for facilitating such a successful event!
