Gold DofE Qualifying expedition

On Saturday 8 July, 14 Lower Eighth students successfully completed their Duke of Edinburgh Gold expedition in the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons). In stark contrast to the heatwave experienced during the training and practice expedition, Wales served up the traditional mixture of wind and heavy rain, although there were moments of respite. All the students successfully completed the expedition which involved around 80km of walking with heavy packs, navigating through wild countryside, managing themselves in camp and cooking all their own meals. They demonstrated excellent competence as well as the important transferable skills of teamwork and resilience.
