On Tuesday 14 October, The Geography Society held their annual Geography Conference and the theme this year was Green Finance.
It was held in the Dorfman theatre and attended by almost 150 students (including SPGS and Partnerships) and parents. They had three excellent speakers at the event:
Walid Al Saqqaf – CTO & Co-Founder of Rebalance Earth, a UK-based platform/fund manager focused on restoring natural infrastructure and treating nature as business-critical infrastructure. Walid has 24 years of experience in technology and entrepreneurship. He has co-founded startups including TrustedPlaces and Insureblocks, and is an Industry Associate at UCL’s Centre for Blockchain Technologies. Walid applies AI and IoT to solve real-world challenges.
Christian Hernandez – Co-founder and Partner at 2150, a London venture capital firm focused on climate tech/sustainable technologies in urban environments. Christian previously worked in senior positions at major tech companies (Facebook, Google), and co-founded White Star Capital. Christian holds a BA in Economics from Duke University and an MBA from The Wharton School, and he is a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum.
Maria Whittaker – With over 20 years of experience in sustainability, strategy, and finance, Maria is now Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer at ABRA Group (Avianca, Gol & Wamos).
